"A Christmas Memory" is about a young boy, referred to as "Buddy," and his older cousin, who is unnamed in the story but is called Sook in later adaptations. Home is where my Friend is
As good as everybody says! Beautiful-poignant-a Gem. it's therefore true that this could be shown once more and once more throughout vacation time--so that the final public will treasure it's stunning, heartfelt simplicity--its charm, its delight at life. Frank and Eleanor Perry had directed another gems right around this time--"David and Lisa" and "Last Summer" terribly different--but with the way at trying therefore terribly near the characters, progressing to the terribly core of their beings--examining their hurts, their yearnings. The fragile/strong Sook and also the fragile/strong childhood Capote are joined at the hip--they are portrayed with loving detail by the nice Geraldine Page and a teen named Donnie Melvin. This nearly appears to anticipate "Harold and Maude" where there are equal amounts of knowing laughter, profound statements said off the cuff by Sook and Maude, that resonate therefore deeply, tenderness, and heartbreaking unhappiness as life and inevitability, the march of your time and also the inexorable presence of death asserting that "all goodies should return to an end". however in dreams and reminiscences, those goodies live on--and this long-forgotten masterpiece deserves to be one among those. The music score is by Meyer Kupferman, who I really had the nice pleasure of knowing. He was a good bear of a person, a revered up to date composer, clarinetist and teacher. I solely distinguished that he wrote the attractive, colourful film score whereas recently watching a DVD I purchased from Amazon. (Expensive--probably as a result of it's therefore rare--but price its weight in gold). currently I therefore want I had known that he was the composer of this beautiful, touching film score--I want I may have talked to Mr. Kupferman concerning his expertise putting this on ink attractive score! however instead, like this fragile film of a short, treasured Christmas Memory, it'll stay an elusive dream. The folks die, life moves on--but the art, the magic, the memory lives on.
